Massive MIMO

Our massive MIMO infrastructure consists of 4 USRP N321, 4 USRP N320, 4 USRP X410, 2 Octoclock CDA-2990, 1 GPU server, and 4 Cross Polarized MIMO antenna. Our software environments are MATLAB, GNU Radio Companion, LabVIEW, SRSRAN, and OpenAirInterface. The Multichannel RF Reference Architecture is taken as reference for setting up the Massive MIMO testbed. The software-defined-radios (SDRs) in this architecture (USRP N321 and USRP N320) support ethernet-based synchronization which enables the MIMO setup to be used as distributed MIMO.

As HİSAR Lab, we have been currently setting up 2 different 16x16 massive MIMO testbed using multiple SDRs (USRP N321/320 (x8), and USRP x410 (x4)), which supports 200 and 400 MHz bandwidth, respectively. These testbeds operate in sub-6GHz frequency band and is able to perform fully digital beamforming using 16 RF chains. These testbeds are expendable to support more RF chains by adding more SDRs. We have been working on integrating these testbeds with an open-source 5G base station emulator (OpenAirInterface), providing a flexible framework for integrating new technologies including mmWave waveforms.
