Collaboration with NVIDIA for 5G+ Wireless Technologies

TÜBİTAK BİLGEM HİSAR Lab is collaborating with NVIDIA by using the Aerial Research Cloud (ARC) platform as a precursor for wireless technologies beyond 5G. The NVIDIA ARC platform will be a milestone in next-generation wireless technology research by providing researchers with an environment to rapidly prototype their research ideas. This collaboration focuses on innovative areas such as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), distributed cell-free massive MIMO, millimeter wave hybrid beamforming, and telco cloud solutions.

TÜBİTAK BİLGEM has established an end-to-end private 5G network based on the Aerial Research Cloud that supports commercial phones, and this platform is open-source in all its layers. With this platform, collaborations with universities will enable the transfer of academic knowledge to industry and the training of young researchers. TÜBİTAK BİLGEM will act as a bridge between industry and academia to revitalize the 5G/6G ecosystem by developing pre-competitive technologies in cooperation with universities.

xApps Integration with NVIDIA ARC-OTA: RIS Supported Wireless Communication System Optimization

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) are emerging as an important breakthrough for the next generation of wireless networks. Although there are many theoretical studies on RIS, live demonstration studies are limited. To fill this gap, HISAR Lab is using the NVIDIA Aerial Research Cloud platform to configure RIS in an end-to-end Open RAN-enabled 5G network using xApps. The GPU-centric implementation of this platform is perfectly aligned with our research goals with AI/ML algorithms to optimize RIS configuration under changing network conditions.
